Considering a career in real estate?

How to become a licensed real estate agent in B.C.

Under the direction of the British Columbia Financial Services Authority (BCFSA), the Real Estate Division of the University of British Columbia (UBC) administers the Real Estate Trading Services Licensing Course. It takes a minimum of 10 weeks to complete all required assignments, plus time for booking/taking the examination. Depending on your schedule, you can complete the course over a longer period at a more leisurely pace.

The exam can be taken on a pre-determined date or you may opt to pay an additional fee for a computer-administered exam at UBC. Taking the exam by computer means you should have your results within 24 hours, rather than several weeks.

Why choose to work with Macdonald Realty

Macdonald Realty stands out as a locally owned, independent real estate brokerage with 20 offices across B.C., a network of 1000 dedicated agents and a reputation for excellence and innovation built over eight decades.  Known for our professionalism, expertise, and community focus, we equip our agents with top-tier training, marketing resources, and technology to support their growth and success in building long-lasting careers.

When selecting a brokerage, one key area to explore is how each company will support you in completing the Applied Practice Course. This is the next credential required after passing your Licensing Course, and it typically takes four to five months.

Once you're licensed, Macdonald Realty provides a unique, 8-week online Build Your Business course to help you establish the skills, knowledge, and routines essential for success. This program combines online lessons—including readings, videos, and quizzes—with regular, small-group Zoom mentorship sessions led by experienced Macdonald agents and managing brokers.
