Q&A with Chase Smith, Macdonald Realty Salt Spring Island's Rookie of The Year
Born and raised on the picturesque Salt Spring Island, Chase Smith has a deep appreciation for the island’s natural beauty, from its stunning views of the Salish Sea to its lush forests and hidden gems. Read on to learn about Chase’s real estate journey, how he secured his first client, and his top tips for aspiring agents.
Why did you decide to pursue a career in real estate? I had a passion for real estate from a very young age. What made me start is my diligence and my perseverance. I'd rather get paid for the quality of work I provide, rather than the amount of hours I put in.
How did you go about securing your very first client in the real estate industry? My very first client was the nicest man in the world! I represented him as a buyer to an unrepresented seller. A friend referred him to me — he didn’t have to work with me but he wanted to give me a chance.

What strategies or tactics do you believe contributed the most to your success as a rookie? This may be an unpopular piece of advice but what has worked great for me is just being active in the community and getting my face out there at events.
If you could give one piece of advice to someone just starting in real estate, what would it be? To have success, you need to be consistent. The biggest lie I was ever told is ‘it’s not that easy’; rather, I see it as ‘it is as challenging as you decide it’s going to be’.

What Macdonald Realty resources or programs did you find the most helpful when starting out in real estate? The other agents that we get to work with! I’m incredibly blessed to be able to call anyone at my office and know they are willing to support me to the best of their ability. We get lots of e-blasts and emails from our Managing Broker, and I read every single one of them.
