Meet Mark Winter: Director of Agent Development at Macdonald Realty
At Macdonald Realty, our people are our greatest asset, and Mark Winter, our Director of Agent Development, is a shining example of this. A veteran in the real estate industry with a rich history of coaching and leadership, Mark brings passion, kindness, and determination to everything he does. His journey through real estate is not just about success; it’s about helping others achieve theirs.
How Mark Began His Real Estate Journey
Mark's path into real estate began in an unlikely place: Oxford, England. After finishing school, Mark joined an Accelerated Management Training program at a high street bank. However, he soon realized that the sedentary office job wasn’t for him. A friend suggested a career in real estate, which at the time included a salaried position and company car – perks that fit Mark’s active lifestyle, especially with his love for windsurfing. After five years, the call of adventure took him to the Himalayas, and eventually to Canada, where he joined Macdonald Realty in 1992. Mark’s first encounter with the company’s legendary Managing Broker, Bill Dick, was memorable—Mark was on crutches after a skiing accident, but his passion for real estate was undeniable.

A Passion for Coaching
In 1999, Mark transitioned from a real estate licensee to the Director of Agent Development, a role that would align perfectly with his true passion: coaching. With a Certificate in Organizational Coaching from the University of British Columbia and a Professional Certified Coach designation from the International Coach Federation, Mark’s journey was made possible by the support and vision of Lynn Hsu, Macdonald Realty’s owner. Lynn recognized Mark’s drive to inspire and support agents, encouraging him to develop his coaching skills. This became Mark’s true calling, helping agents build successful careers while cultivating meaningful, relational connections with their clients.
Key Lessons for Aspiring Agents
Mark’s advice for new agents is grounded in his own experience. “It’s less a sales business and more a relational one,” he says. The key to success in real estate is commitment. Mark encourages those entering the industry to approach it with a 3-5 year minimum commitment. “This isn’t a career you can just try out,” he explains. “Those who commit wholeheartedly build and sustain incredible careers.” He also stresses the importance of creating a consistent routine with clear goals—something he refers to as “the three R’s” – Review, Reflect, Reset.
Why Real Estate?
For Mark, the real estate industry isn’t just about buying and selling properties—it’s about helping people navigate key life decisions. “I love the privilege of being with someone in a place of not knowing,” he shares. Whether coaching agents or helping clients, Mark thrives on shifting perspectives and guiding others toward success.

The Macdonald Realty Difference
Mark’s admiration for Macdonald Realty runs deep. What stands out to him most is the people. "It’s a family-run organization where we’re all invited to feel part of the extended family together,” he explains. It’s this sense of community, collaboration, and shared success that makes Macdonald Realty such a unique place to work.
Fun Fact About Mark
Outside of his work, Mark is an avid motorcyclist and enjoys taking his Honda VFR800 through the Rockies. He’s also known for his incredible travel stories, including one that involves a surprise reunion with his brother in Quebec City—an unforgettable moment that still makes him smile.
Mark’s Favorite Quote
“We are feeling beings who think, more than we are thinking beings who feel.” This quote resonates deeply with Mark’s approach to coaching and leadership. He believes that how we make others feel is paramount, emphasizing the importance of listening, engaging, and building genuine connections.
