Q&A with Indie Thind, Langley's Rookie of The Year
Langley’s Rookie of The Year Indie Thind joined Macdonald Realty in January 2024, with several years of real estate experience in the Greater Toronto Area. At his previous brokerage, he broke the brokerage's record for a new agent with the largest combined seller listing and buyer purchase at almost $4 million, while finishing in the top 3% annually. In his second year there, he finished in the top 1% of condo sales in the GTA. Needless to say, Indie has a strong work ethic and dedication to his career. He’s a real go-getter!
We checked in with Indie to ask for his top tips for aspiring real estate agents, why he decided to pursue a career in real estate, and which Macdonald Realty resource he finds most helpful.
Why did you decide to pursue a career in real estate? The primary reason I embarked on a career in real estate was because I wanted to be in an industry in which I could make a tangible difference in people's lives. As an experienced real estate investor, entrepreneur, and homeowner in multiple countries, I believed that my unique life experiences would offer a different insight to buyers and sellers, as well as utilize my relationship-building and negotiating skills.
How did you go about securing your very first client in the real estate industry? Real estate is not an easy industry to break into, and quite frankly, this was the most challenging part of the process. A couple I knew were trying to have their first child and thereby move to a bigger house. I convinced them to partner with me to assist them in purchasing their new home, as I would be more tenacious on the buy side than a more experienced realtor who would perhaps be more focused on listings.
What strategies or tactics do you believe contributed the most to your success as a rookie? Given that I entered the industry relatively late in my professional career, I had a good idea of where my strengths lay and, of course, what my weaknesses were. Asking for help in areas I wasn't entirely confident in helped to propel my understanding. The concept of looking for "money in motion" was definitely a strategy that contributed to my success.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone just starting in real estate, what would it be? The best piece of advice I received from an old friend who was himself a very successful real estate agent was to ensure that I built a good rapport/relationship with the agent on the opposite side of the transaction. That has served me very well in my career so far.
What Macdonald Realty resources or programs did you find the most helpful when starting out in real estate? The best resource at Macdonald Realty is the people. Everyone at my office was incredibly supportive and made me feel at home right away. In particular, my Managing Broker, Tore Jacobsen, has been of invaluable help, especially during my first transaction when everything seemed so complicated and daunting. A special shout-out must go to Jamie Patchett, Mark Winter and Drew McLean for their ongoing support!
